Project: Marine Parade Piha Kitchen Seamlessly Blends Elegance and Utility
In the picturesque locale of Marine Parade, Piha, the talented team at Daniel Marshall Architects (DMA) have crafted a kitchen that stands as the heart of a sophisticated yet functional family home. This kitchen, designed with precision and an eye for detail, reflects the essence of New Zealand’s architectural heritage while embracing contemporary innovation.
A Tribute to the New Zealand Bach
The Marine Parade Piha project was conceived as a family residence, paying homage to the historical simplicity and charm of the traditional New Zealand bach. To achieve this, every material and design element was meticulously chosen. The house’s living areas are elevated to maximize breathtaking views and are arranged around two courtyards, providing sheltered outdoor spaces that enhance the visual appeal from every angle.
The Kitchen: A Social and Functional Hub
In this thoughtfully designed home, the kitchen plays a pivotal role. It is not merely a place for preparing meals; it is a central hub that seamlessly integrates with the living spaces, including the lounge, dining area, and an outdoor room. The kitchen’s design ensures it functions as a social pivot point, fostering family interaction and connectivity.
Choice of Materials: Corian and Fenix
For this project, DMA selected APT products, specifically Corian and Fenix, for their sophisticated yet utilitarian qualities. The Fenix color Nero Ingo, with its stunning matte finish, was chosen for its resemblance to the black sand of Piha’s West Coast, visible from the living spaces. This choice perfectly encapsulates the desired blend of elegance and practicality.
Innovation in Design
The Marine Parade Piha kitchen stands out not just for its aesthetic appeal but also for its innovative design. The project was among the first to use Fenix, integrating it seamlessly into the kitchen cabinetry, dining area storage, and the AV cabinet in the living room. A highlight of this design is the TV that rises from the AV cabinet on demand, showcasing the versatility and modernity of the space. The combination of Fenix, Corian, and a brass bench upstand transforms the kitchen into a luxurious environment, further enhanced by the use of Corian in the bathrooms.
Lessons Learned and Client Satisfaction
The successful execution of this project has reinforced DMA’s confidence in using Fenix and Corian as staple materials in their future endeavors. The clients’ exceptional satisfaction with the outcomes attests to the design’s success, particularly the kitchen, which they love for its functionality and beauty.
The Marine Parade Piha kitchen by Daniel Marshall Architect Ltd. is a fantastic example of innovative design, thoughtful material selection, and a deep respect for New Zealand’s architectural traditions and how a kitchen can be both the functional heart and a visual centerpiece of a family home.
